Weddings and such

Well, Saturday I went to the Duggar/Seewald wedding. It was so beautiful. I was humbled by it all.

The bride looked beautiful in her stunning palest of pink gown, as she sashayed down the isle. The groom watched her with love in his eyes. They could only see eachother. It was like nobody else was in the room.

I was a bit surprised during the pouring of the sand that they played such a contemporary Christian song, but it really was beautiful and fitting.

Then came the moment we were all waiting for... THE KISS! The minister said that the bride and groom were about to have their first kiss as man and wife... but they went into a room by themselves! He said they wished to share their first kiss privately. Every head turned towards the Duggar parents who looked absolutely stunned by this display. Michelle was shaking her head. My husband started to crack up, and I had to elbow him in the ribs. It was quite funny though. I wish you could have seen the looks on their faces. I don't even remember what the minister preached on while the couple was gone, I think something about how the couple was doing the right thing by remaining pure until this day. Then, he asked the Duggar parents to kiss so we could all see a Duggar kiss. Jim Bob and Michelle were still in shock, but they obliged and quickly pecked on the lips.

Afterwards, I heard Jim Bob and someone from TLC talking about altering the storyline to make it look like Jim Bob and Michelle were in on it the whole time. It was a surprise to most of us that the children wished to be alone, but I don't blame them. My first kiss was dreadful... I would not want all of America seeing it! However, it seemed to be most of all a shock to the brides parents.

The ice cream was simply delightful. Everyone had a scoop, and they had dairy free and they had sugar free so everyone was included in the ice cream. We all chatted and had a grand time together. Several people told Ben and Jessa they were proud of them for choosing to keep their first kiss private. Jessa's dressed was oohed and aahed over.

It was a lovely wedding. I can't decide who will be next, but I hope it is just as lovely as this one.

Love,

Ashleigh

  1. I was waiting for this post. Glad you all made it back safe; twins and all. I watched Jill's Wedding on YouTube. I might have seen you. Do you have blond or brown hair? Do you wear glasses? I saw a couple of little girls in pink dresses running out in the middle after they drove off and just before the end; were those your girls?
Did you meet the Maxwell family? Some of their grandchildren are also possibilities for "intendeds" for your children. An interesting family for sure; though also controversial. Do you use their MOTH products?
I saw that Kirk Cameron was at the Duggar/Seewald wedding; did you meet him? I LOVE how he made the decision to NOT kiss that woman who played his wife in Fireproof; even in acting, and they then brought in Chelsea to play the kiss scene. When I watched Courageous and saw that there were NO full-mouth kisses between ANY of the married couples, I wondered if he inspired that. Amazing how God works. Have a lovely day, sister

    1. I haven't seen the episode yet, so I am not sure if it was them or not.
Yes, I met the Maxwell's. Odd bunch they were. Kind of kept to themselves.
Yes, I met Kirk Cameron. He was... well I wasn't a Duggar, so I didn't matter quite so much. He was rather gruff with those who were not superstar celebrities like himself and the Bates and the Duggars.

    2. I was bothered by the author's comment about Kirk Cameron. I have always heard very good things about him and his ministry. He might be a total jerk in person, but I don't believe that Christians can truly support each other in the Great Commission if they are slandering each other in a public forum. Just my opinion.

That should be a bigger scandal than whatever this happily married couple were up to.

    6. Wow. This is all just a joke. If you even did attend the wedding you were told to NOT talk about it. And if you were a true christian you wouldn't talk about it. What happened is none of anyone's business. SO stupid of you both.

    7. Good for you, Concerned. They're married, they waited, if they want to get in a quickie on which they've been waiting for a long time, I say have at it and love each other, the Lord, and life! Jinger should have knocked, or better yet, not disturb the newly weds! Everyone quit being judgy-judies and go read a a few lines of scripture to wash it out of your brains!

    9. I did not see Jinger's face at the time but my daughter did see and she was very upset by what they had done. My daughter told me that they had been "feeling" each other, some time later after a something questioning, my daughter informed me that Jessa was caressing Ben's "area" and Ben had his hands on her breasts and buttocks. I do not know for sure if this is true, I would pray that my daughter would not lie to me. Now knowing that you too have heard what had happened, I believe my daughter may be telling the truth.
I am not a fan of Jessa or Ben. I think Ben is too young for her and this may end up being a bad union, I do believe they married simply so they could sin together. I think Mr. Duggar arranged for them to be married so they did not sin outside marriage. This may already have happened though, considering her dress was pale pink and not virginal white. I do believe Mr. Duggar is a very controlling man, he seems to have a tighter grip of his family than others in our circles, that may be down to being on TV though.
I did really like the sand part of the ceremony instead of the candles, it was refreshing.

    18. I swear these fundies are obsessed with sex. I don't be this story. Jinger probably walked into the couple mid-embrace and got scandalized. She should have knocked, or better yet, just left the couple alone! Oh, and as far as Jessa's dress not being "virginal white", lady, off white dresses have long been in fashion. White for a wedding gown has no biblical edict, it was a trend started by Queen Victoria. These fundies need to stop sniffing each other's bed linens.

    19. If all that is true and Jessa and Ben were touching each other, then it's not a sin, it's ok because they are married. This was in private and they were interrupted by Jinger and whomever was standing there being nosy. Such bad examples of Christians many of you are, how can a married couple sin by touching each other in private, they are married.

    20. I am sickened by this gossip! "So-and-so didn't see it, but she said so-and-so did and..." "I heard that she said that he said..." Blah, blah, blah. IF Jinger saw something it could've been something as simple as French kissing, which for Jinger to see J&B do would be a little surprising for the 1st time, and she likely just felt a little embarrassed that she interrupted a private moment, not that THEY were doing anything wrong! And what if they did feel each other up a bit (which I doubt they would do in a somewhat public place), but so wha?!!t!
My husband & I waited until we were married to be intimate or even "touch, but a.s.a. we were married we would playfully grab one another's butts whenever we had a private moment. News Flash People: God Made Sex for Married People to ENJOY!
These people are beautiful God-honoring Christians who have been obedient to the Lord, but there always has to be people who can't believe that. Shame on you all for this childish gossip!!! I'd expect this from the WORLD, but not from other so-called Christians.

The legalism just doesn't stop - no one can be perfect enough in these peoples' eyes. SO un-Christian like. And how incredibly disturbing to think of a bunch of girls gawking over this private moment - and then talking to their parents about it - and then their parents PRAYING about it??! Praying what, exactly? About another married couple's sex life? How incredibly creepy. And gross. And I am a Christian. Check yourselves.

You are all bad examples of christians, because there is no good example. Not here. Not anywhere. Humanists with half a brain know a farce when they see one, and that's why you can't have a good example of a "good christian" because they don't exist!

How will he ever provide for a family in the next year or two? He's got a good bit of growing up left in him.

I believe Jessa and Ben are in deep lust with each other, but there's nothing to show that they are suited for one another in the way Jill and Derrick are. I hope Jessa and Ben have a strong faith that will see them through the tough times that are surely ahead.

The liberals have infected her mind with selfishness, Ben too has been exposed to too much. The Fathers did not do a good job in sheltering them from the heathens outside our world. You people have no problems with unnecessarily badmouthing people you acknowledged that you barely know (the Duggars, Kirk Cameron and others) but then declare that Satan will turn Jessa into a whore for being strong minded?! I would agree with others here who think this is a parody or sarcasm but I have heard people like this so much. And where did you get this: GODLY family works: GOD>Husband/ Father> Sons> Daughters> Mother/ Wife????? That is NOT in the Bible, and I don't know a single LEGIT Bible teacher who teaches such nonsense. The husband and wife are the ones who are the image of Christ and the Church. The HUSBAND is to HONOR his wife, love her as Christ loved the Church and DIED for her! The wife submits, but see the husband is already submitting by daily laying down his life for her -- they are mutually submitting and the children as well. The Christian life is a servants life -- Jesus did not teach us -- men or women -- to lord it over others and treat them like dirt. And whoever said the bad stuff about someone at the wedding and that she was upset and tried to talk to her husband about it, but he won't talk about it until he prays and gets an answer??!! Oh, it usually takes 48 hrs for him to get an answer! WHAT?!!! I'll tell you the answer: what Jesus told the disciple, "what is it to you if I will that (that other disciple) linger here until I return?" In other words what they did at the church is NOT YOUR BUSINESS.
The people on this page are just celebrating severe legalities. They know nothing of the love, joy, peace and liberty we have in our great Lord Jesus Christ.

This is unbelievable ! Women are not empty headed people that need to be "whipped into shape" , controlled , monitored, or punished for any wrong doing, as deemed unjust by the husband. Straight up- that's slavery! Wives are not to be "broken in" to behave as a husband commands. Even worse would be the husband that thinks this is the way it should be. There are services to protect women from domination and this type of mind bending control. I am praying you don't have children that you are raising to believe this domination of husband over wife is o.k. I am praying that you get the help that you need.

Kissing as part of their ceremony is not a long held tradition - it isn't part of traditional ceremonies - so I don't think there is anything about it that 'goes against God.'

How cruel to include a post with threats - as well as strong judgments of other people's lives. This, like many other moments, is a time to show understanding, love and compassion. Above all, God teaches us love, and I see so little of that in this post. The idea of using the term "whip" even metaphorically - I can't begin to say how disturbing this post is. It is not our job to stand in judgment!

She is a hedonistic harlot and I hope with God's will Ben can break her of her tempress ways! Jim Bob lost his way with this girl, allowing her to be the "pretty one" and not ensuring she has a true servant's heart. Even on our missions to South America, Jessa would put makeup on the poor women's faces before actually ministering to them. As her new Headship, Ben should break her of her old liberal habits. I hope the LORD blesses them with new life soon so she can understand real servitude and end her hedonistic harlot ways.

    2. Kaye I agree. Eve is out of line. It is not for her judge.

    3. So Eve, you say that God intended Jessa to submit to her husband. If that's the case and he wanted to have their first married encounter in the vestibule of the church, wouldn't it have been positively SINFUL for her to refuse? Dang Catch-22's.

  17. You are a joke! Seriously, if Jesus is not going to forgive a woman who saved her first kiss for marriage... it looks like you Eve along with probably every other woman in this world will have a terrible judgment day when it comes. Think before you speak, you brainwashed being.

    1. Jealous of what exactly? I have a wonderful husband who had been working in his own successful business for 10 years before we married! He bought us a home - outright! No mortgage, no debt! Jessa and Ben have nothing of their own, Jim Bob has probably bought a house for them to stay in. Ben doesn't have a business. We believe in "leave and cleave", Jim Bob should no longer help his daughters, they no longer belong to him. Ben and Jessa are a bad union, blessed by TLC, no the LORD! Jim Bob couldn't bare the shame of being wrong about the boy so let Jessa marry him. Jill and Derick are a perfect match, he can provide for his new family, though Jim Bob still gave them a house.

    2. Yes, but Jessa is a lovely, beautiful, happy person. Everyone loves her. She and Ben have their whole lives ahead of them to establish themselves financially. Jessa will always be Jim Bobs daughter. He loves her and wants what's best for her.

Do leave your parents in shock as it was so put in a previous post. Those two both have a lot of growing up to do I am not passing judgement on them at all but from what I have read in this blog it seems people are making Jessa out to be a bad girl. I just hope that when the show does air that Ben and Jessa explain why they wanted their first kiss to be private and why they didn't tell their parents. I can't wait for the wedding to air as I hear her dress was just gorgeous, saw the one picture of them and all I can say is wow of course Ben looked good too but we know it's all about the brides dress. 1. I don't think that these young people are any more immature or defiant than anyone else at their age. I can see the reasoning in not telling the Duggar parents of their intent to not kiss publicly, especially if Jim Bob and Michelle we're going to talk them into doing what they wanted them to do. Wanting to please and obey the parents they would be obliged to kiss in front of every one, a decision that they were forced into. No harm done, just didn't go the way the Duggar parents wanted JESSA's (key word) wedding to go.

  33. The Duggars and the families like them (The Shupes, The Rodrigues', The Bates'. The Seewalds, The Maxwells, The Wallers, etc) are all part of the same fundamentalist ultra-christian subculture. The husband and father is the head of the family and has complete control over it. The basically sell their daughters into marriage. They are similar to the FLDS, strict Muslims and Zionist Jews. The wives and daughters have to serve the husbands and sons until they are married, and then they serve their new husbands and their children. The majority of these families live in abject poverty, with an ever growing family, they have an average of 10-12 kids. The fathers are told to run their own business instead of working for anyone else (control).
These people are real and if you read their blogs, twitter feeds, instagram feeds and facebook walls, you'll see the crazy is real and taking political action!

  34. HELLO! This is "Mary B." from the "Duggar wedding" again. I was very surprised to recently hear my original comment regarding the wedding was reported by multiple news agencies, websites, and publications. Why was I surprised? BECAUSE THE COMMENT IS NOT TRUE. I was not at the wedding- I don't know the Duggars personally. This comment was SATIRE on a SATIRICAL blog. This would be similar to CNN pulling stories from TheOnion and reporting on them. The funny thing is the people posting using the name "Mary B." are (from what I can tell) all different people. I made the original joke comment and others have "added" to the story with new comments. If you're a new visitor to this blog, and were directed here by a news agency reporting this story as fact--- find a new place to get your news. Let's take RadarOnline for example. Radar originally started using posts from this blog in stories yesterday (their originally story pulled from this blog was "Ashleigh's" post on the wedding kiss/head shaking/Jim Bob begging TLC to cut the reaction). Shortly after reporting this, MULTIPLE people IMMEDIATELY contacted Radar (myself included) via the comment section on their site as well as Tweets to BOTH Radar's main account and the editor's personal accounts, to inform them this was a SATIRICAL blog, and to not report these stories as facts--- this is a joke blog, a parody account of real, bizarre fundamentalist blogs. Radar chose to ignore this and continue to report stories and anonymous comments from this openly SATIRICAL blog as fact, in what I can only assume is an attempt to gain more clicks, attention, and revenue for the site. The have CHOSEN to ignore the information, and continue to erroneously report this as true despite knowing else wise. Great journalistic integrity right there, folks.

TO ALL THE PUBLICATIONS PULLING THIS STORY AND REPORTING IT: I'M GOING TO REPEAT MYSELF- THIS IS A ***SATIRICAL*** BLOG. EVERYONE IS IN ON THE JOKE. NO ONE ON THIS BLOG WAS AT THE WEDDING. STOP REPORTING THIS AS SUCH. If you want to report "real" fundamentalist stories, check out the REAL blogs this site is parodied after. More shocking than any of the joke stories on this site. And tell your editors to do a little research- spending all of 10 seconds on Google would show you this was a satirical blog, and 2 minutes reading through past entires right under this one will confirm that (tales of saving 10 year olds at the playground, peeing in public in skirts, and demoniac dolls haunting the children). No true journalist would report this…but then again that's probably why you're working for a tabloid and not a legitimate news site.

  36. Mr. Gothard was probably somewhere bothering the young ladies who are sent to serve him. There have been a few complaints about him. I don't believe Jessa and Ben were doing anything other than kissing. Neither one is that stupid. There were at least 1,000 people waiting for them. I also think that the poster "Eve" is not real. However, this family does espouse the tenets of the FLDS religion, if you will. It is a patriarchal. The father is Almighty. He has to approve those who want to court their daughters. They transfer authority to the daughters' husband on the day of marriage. Their offspring are home schooled and they do not believe in education higher than high school. The rules for "courting" are extremely strict. They might as well put a burka on their daughters and be done with it. The girls go nowhere together and when they are being "courted", there is a chaperone who goes with them. And this is 2014.

    1. Actually, it's not so strange. Jessa and Ben were (possibly unwittingly) following a centuries old Jewish tradition called Yichud. Immediately after the ceremony, the bride and groom go to a private room to consummate the marriage. In modern times, this is usually just a chance for the couple to reflect on the day in private and have something to eat, so most don't actually consummate right there, but traditionally, that's what they are supposed to do.

I think that the Duggar family trusted the attendees to politely not speak nor show pictures of the wedding. Why would Ashleigh say these things. Is that called gossip? Now, people have labeled the Duggars, liars. Ashleigh, the Bible says that if you have something against a brother or sister in Christ that you should go to that person and bring the offense to their attention in private. Also, to speculate what Jessa and Ben did during their time alone because of the stunned look on Jinger's face...that would be spreading a rumor. Love bears all things, believes all things... you should think the best of the Duggars. It is very sad to see what has happened to this family because of what was said on this blog post. Ashleigh, please apologize to them and ask God to forgive your gossip. He will, He is faithful to forgive our sins and to cleanse from all unrighteousness. Would you like someone to do this to you? I apologize if you are not the one that made the comment about Jessa and Ben and what they did during their time alone. It just upsets me to see such a nice family that God has used so much on TV to spread the Gospel and show us what it is like to treasure and tove children be hurt like this. It is very sad.

  67. How warped do you have to be, to honestly think that a man and woman who are married, in a church, in the eyes of god, need anyone else's permission or guidance on when to consummate their marriage?

They were in a room designed as a private enclosure to share their first kiss, hug, handshake, prayer, whatever in the presence of only them and God.

That private enclosure was breached, innocently or not, and the blame lies on the individual who had the thought "hrm. they went into that room alone, so they could share a private moment. The best action i can take right now, is to open it up and poke my nose around to see what i can see."

Yes, lets all be good christians and find ways to demonize something that was intended to be a private moment between two consenting adults, by exposing to the world how impure and chaste your own thoughts are.

  72. Mary, I just have to add my opinion about your being blessed with a discounted hotel room. The way you describe it makes it sound like you used the Lord to con the hotel manager into giving you a cheaper room. Maybe I'm reading it wrong.

    1. Appalling, isn't it? While shouting about personal responsibility and supporting yourself and your family without govt handouts this one has no problems panhandling for freebies. And AMEN.

  73. I dont know why this is such a big deal? They were already married. Man made a door, and GOD gave us a brain to use our common sense to knock first! lol

  74. I'm a Christian and many of these comments make me ashamed to be a part of this club.

Someone said they only got married so they could sin. Wow. Seriously?

Comments about Ben being lead to sin by his wife? If Ben sins it's because BEN sinned.

Her dress was pink-- SO WHAT?

I'm a Christian. I'd have sex in a sideroom of my church if I felt so inclined. My pastor wouldn't even care as long as we locked the door.

  75. Good for them. Seriously. They are married. I am pretty sure they prayed during the wedding ceremony. They could've locked the door, but it may have been unintended...once they got to doing their first kiss, all the passion came out. :) PS, I am a married Christian woman. Me and my hubby also waited until marriage, and we've been married for 9 years. I think if we could've, we would have right after the ceremony too...

  76. Were they both tested for STDs? I know Jessa is pure, but that Seewald guy was in Katmandoo. God knows what diseases he caught in the mountains.

Something is not right when they defile God's house like this.

  77. Didn't her mother say "“Anyone can fix him lunch, but only one person can meet that physical need of love that he has, and you always need to be available when he calls.'”? If this bride truly believes that, she had no option but to let her husband have his way. While her family believes that it's her responsibility to stay pure before marriage, her right to say "not now honey" ended when she said "I do".
