Choir

My church has a lovely choir, to which I am an Alto. I am the star Alto, I know the music the best, and I sing the best. I am a very strong Alto. I'm so strong my director asks me to tone it down... but in all seriousness, you can't tone down a voice as strong as mine.

Anyway, today in practice, they gave us the music for the Christmas concert. We are singing a LATIN song! Whatever for!? I can't believe that! We always sing English! Now our director wants us to learn a new language? Latin is a dead language, why are we learning this!?

MY family only speaks English. I will be having a chat with the director today about this. If he wants his star Alto, he is going to have to give up the Latin!

Love,

Ashleigh

  1. Please ask Mary B to have her husband consult with Jesus on the correct direction before telling your director no.

    1. Jesus did not speak English are you fucking dumb? He most likely spoke Arabic or another language that can be found in the middle east but he did not speak English it's not possible. The Bible was just recently translated into English, translated being the key word to know He did not speak English!!

  5. Latin? Oh no! :-( You should certainly drop out or demand the song be dropped! Don't let your church be influenced by those pagan Catholics!

    1. You DO realize that any other Christian group broke away from the Catholic Church. Catholicism was the FIRST organized Christian religion. While I don't agree with a lot of what Catholicism says, it WAS the first.

    2. Valerie, actually it wasn't. I'm beginning to think you are a troll because you just cause trouble. I hope these are not your real opinions because they are ugly. You'd better hope your husband doesn't see the filth you're posting.

    3. Renee,
Please give us some facts to dispute that Catholics were not the first Christians. Valerie isn't saying anything outrageous. All of her points seem pretty valid. I'd love to see where you're getting your information as it contradicts a lot of what I've learned and read through the years.

  6. Hahahahaha. Dear heart. Latin is the base for all of our language. Literally. So, by your reasoning, if Latin is dead then we should all be speaking in grunts and gestures ad English would be annihilated as well.

Also, it's great to feel good about yourself and your abilities, I'm glad you do :). But (and I'm saying this gently so please don't take offense), in my honest opinion you came off sounding very prideful and I was a bit taken aback. Possibly it was just the way you wrote it, I'm sure you didn't mean to come off like that, from your posts you seem to be a very Godly woman.

  7. Jesus was born and raised into the Jewish faith and was most certainly of middle eastern descent. He most likely did not speak English as the English was never the main language spoken in middle Eastern countries. Yes Jesus did renounce his faith to become a Christian at a later age but that does not make him English. Jesus was not white but he was human and that is what matters.

    1. How could Jesus have renounced his faith to become a Christian? He became a worshiper of himself? That doesn't make sense. Historically, actually, he lived and died a Jew and his followers created the Christian religion after he died. And, of course he didn't speak English as English didn't yet exist 2000 years ago! Most likely he spoke Aramaic and/or Hebrew.

  8. You guys are too much - really. I am a professionally trained linguist and I know what I am talking about. Jesus is believed to have spoken Amharic, a Middle-Eastern dialect. He probably spoke some "koine" Greek as well, as it was the "lingua franca" of the entire Roman Empire at that point. Just about anybody with any education (which he most definitely had) spoke "koine," if only to deal with merchants coming from other parts of the world to trade.

As for Latin being the root of "all" languages, well, I hate to break this to you, but it is NOT. It is the root of the "Romance" languages (coming out of Rome, see) such as Spanish, French, Italian and even Romanian. Latin is one of the branches on the far older "Indo-European" language tree. I won't even try to go there.

English is basically an offshoot of Anglo-Saxon, which was Germanic in origin. That's a whole different critter. And English most certainly did not yet exist during Christ's lifetime.

So please, ladies, try not to spout off when you have NO clue as to what you are talking about. I don't doubt your faith, but your scholarship is in SHREDS. People won't take you seriously if you keep nattering on about things you know nothing about.

  9. Why, oh why are any of you trying to convince this blogger about any thing? This blog is obviously tongue in cheek. The "blogger" is laughing at every post...including mine. Several things have caught my attention...seems to me like to say you are the star alto is a bit bragadocious for someone claiming such piety. Also, dear blogger, you need to avoid the same grammar/spelling mistakes in the blog posted by the so-called mother of your oldest child's intended husband to be.

  10. Hello! You have a lovely blog, and it is wonderful to read your posts. I too am in a choir, but I sing soprano. :)

If you don't mind my asking, why don't you want to sing Latin?

  11. Latin is the bases for the five romance languages and many English words have Latin roots. So please get your conceited ass off of that pedestal

  12. This blog is appalling. I have never seen such arrogance and hypocrisy from someone who is suppose to be Christian.

  13. I don't know how much time or effort you've put towards being in a choir, but there are no "star altos" or "stars" in general. The best people in a choir are the ones that know to blend their voices and tones to create a unified sound. If your director has asked you to tone it down, it's because your strong voice is giving your choir a less pleasing choir tone. Maybe you should actually listen to your director and learn to use your voice properly within a choir.

  14. Get a clue. You should read The Devil Knows Latin to understand why Christians SHOULD learn Latin.

  16. Latin is a beautiful language. Why does it matter what language it is if it worships the lord? I don't think God hates latins. The God I was taught about did not hate his own children. The church I grew up in welcomed everyone to worship WITHOUT judgment, we were taught to be kind and love everyone regardless of what language they spoke, religion they were, who they loved, what color there skin was and we certainly didn't throw a diva hissy fit over songs of worship being in another language. Before you go crazy on me for being " un American" or " " un Christian " please note that every man in my family has fought for this country and they stand with me on this subject. I pray daily and read the Bible. I talk to the Lord every day and I don't for a second he would think your behavior is okay. If this is a legit blog , which I'm not sure it is , then I will tell you his ; God gave us talent and we are to be humble not bost about it .I sincerly hope this is a satire blog.. If not I have a ton of praying to do. And I will be praying for you. What you did to the Duggars is not okay at all satire blog or not. Do you understand how much words and gossip hurt?

  17. If you are going to write a farce of a blog, at least have it be believable. Most choirs start practicing for Christmas in early September, not early November.

  18. Glad you displayed yet another improper attitude towards others. You are not the best person for solos, obvious by your puffed up attitude. Hope you are permanently shown the door. Maybe your husband will start his own home church and you Canberra in charge of the singing.
