Why We Wear Long Skirts

A couple of years ago, I was inspired by Erika Shupe of Large Families on Purpose. She had a great thinking for why women should wear skirts. I do NOT agree with her short hair, and feel like it is against God's Word to have short hair, especially if you are a Bible believing Christian woman.

Erika said that if you wear pants, a mans eyes can go up your leg and imagine your crotch. You basically put it all out there for him wearing pants! After reading this, my conviction of wearing skirts became stronger. Then I realized, you need to wear LONG skirts, because if you wear a knee legnth skirt, you are giving the same effect. Actually, wearing anything shorter than ankle length can make a man imagine getting under that skirt, and it provides easier access! If your skirt is ankle length though, a man will not have the same thoughts, because you are not showing anything that he can see to put the missing pieces together.

So we wear long skirts to help fight against the rape culture we live in. We also wear shirts up to our collarbones. My daughters always wore skirts or dresses from the day they were born. I had someone tell me, they wouldn't learn to walk or crawl! Well, my daughters did not have any issue learning to walk. Crawling encourages getting into things at such a young age, that we feel its best that they don't learn anyway. So dresses on my baby girls helps them to learn control and patience.

Matthew is crawling right now, but I won't inhibit him. For one thing, skirts are not for boys. For another, little boys DO need to learn about how things work from a young age in order to be the man of God they are called to be.

My girls love their skirts anyway. We buy frilly colorful dresses that make them all oh so happy!

  1. women are commanded to dress with shamefacedness. That simply means they are not to draw attention to themselves. And pants draw attention to the woman's figure. So if you wear a pair of pants, or even a tight skirt, it shows the figure and it is not shamefacedness, or modest, because it doesn't flow. It shows the figure and it stimulates men. And of course, you should not want to dress in such a way that it stimulates the lusts of a man. Remember in First Corinthians chapter thirteen that it says, "Charity doth not behave itself unseemly." You shouldn't seek to do things that would cause someone to fall. Jesus said that if a man looks on a woman with lust in his heart, he has already committed adultery with her. Do you realize that if you dress in such a way that it shows your form and figure, and some man lusts after you, you have just let him commit adultery with you? "Well, he didn't have to look." Yes, and he could have also driven blindfolded into a tree somewhere. Get real. Granted, a man should know how to keep control of his mind, but women ought not to be tempting him either. So only a full and flowing skirt qualifies as a katastole, a long flowing garment. So only a dress or skirt could be considered modest, because modesty is a katastole, long and flowing. And since pants do not flow, and only a dress or skirt does, only a dress or skirt can be considered modest. And since a long flowing garment, a skirt or dress, is the only way a woman can dress without showing off her figure, then only a skirt or dress would be shamefacedness.

. The second reason why shorts and mini-skirts would be 47:2-3 says, "Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers. Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man." Here was a women who wanted to cross a river. God wanted to disgrace the woman, (If you read the text in Isaiah chapter forty-seven, you will see why.) so He commanded her to walk across the river, then, to lift up her skirt so her thigh would show. And God said that when her thigh was exposed, she would be naked and her shame would be revealed. We read that she was told to uncover the locks, to make bare the leg, uncover the thigh and "thy nakedness shall be uncovered."

The thigh goes from your hips to somewhere in the knee. So if a woman dresses in such a way where that part of her body is exposed, the Bible says she is naked. Mini-skirts expose that part of the body. Thus, if a woman wears a mini-skirt, she is naked. And shorts, they expose that part of the body, and the Bible says in Isaiah chapter forty-seven, if she shows that part of the body, she would be naked. Well then, if you wear a pair of shorts, you would be naked, according to God. Therefore shorts and the mini-skirt would be immodest, because they are not long, and because they expose nakedness. And as I said, the thigh goes down into the knee. So the only way to guarantee that the thigh is not exposed is to wear a skirt or dress that goes below the knee. That is why a preacher demands that a woman wear skirts and dresses below the knee.

And this should make it obvious that bathing suits are not modest, that they expose nakedness. You could buy a mini-skirt that only uncovers three or four inches of nakedness. A swimsuit will expose a full eighteen inches of nakedness. We think that if we get on a swimsuit, our genitals are covered and we are clothed. God says no, you don't just cover your genitals. You cover the thigh. Plus the swimsuit shows off the form and the figure, and is not shamefacedness. It doesn't flow. It is not long. It is not modest.

We read that when Adam and Eve realized they had sinned they sewed fig leaves together. What did they do? They covered their genitals. What did God do? He said, "No, that is not good enough. You need to cover more than your sexual area. You need to cover your nakedness." So what did He do? He slew an animal and clothed them in skins, so their nakedness would be covered-smiley

  3. the first reason why a preacher says a woman should not wear pants is because they are a man's garment, and the Bible says it is an abomination for a woman to wear a man's garment. The second reason, pants are not, I repeat, not modest. "Well preacher, that is your opinion." Yes, but, I can prove it from the Bible. In First Timothy 2:9, we read that women should adorn themselves in "modest apparel." In the Greek, the word for modest is the word katastolh (katastole), and it means a long flowing garment. Remember I said that in the Bible days, men wore a short tight skirt and women wore a long and flowing robe. That was a katastole. The Bible in First Timothy 2:9 tells women to adorn themselves in a long flowing garment, not a short, tight garment. That is what modest is, long and flowing. Pants do not flow. I have never yet seen a pair of pants that flow. Therefore, even if "long," they do not qualify as a long flowing garment. And since they are not a long flowing garment, they are not a katastole. Katastole is translated modest. Therefore, if a modest garment is a long flowing garment, and pants do not flow, pants are not modest.

  4. I thought these comments would help your argument for skirts on a biblical level! Some people might want to argue with what u said and say well then its ok for women to be drawn to the mans midsection because of pants????? So this should nip. That in the bud :-) -smiley http://www.momof9splace.com/sermon.html

  5. It is developmentally important for your children to learn to crawl.

  6. It's disturbing to me that you want your baby to crawl around so he can learn how things work and become a man of God but baby girls need not be crawling around. Babies all need the same things in life and should not be denied of development basics like crawling around to develop a child's independence and curiosity based on a babies gender.

  7. I disagree with your comment about women wearing long skirts to combat against rape culture. What you are saying is that the only women who get raped are the ones who dres in an immodest manner, that is not a fact. Women are raped all around the world on a daily basis however they may have been dressed. Women wearing long skirts have also been victims of rape.

  8. And people wonder why we don't take religious people seriously. This entire post is why. I can imagine lots of people naked without their clothing being a factor. You all make yourselves look like idiots because of the incredibly unbelievably stupid things you people say. Shaking my head for sure.

  12. I feel so bad for you that you're so restricted & so confused about what's right & what's wrong. Didn't Jesus come to set us free from works & from the law? No one needs to be bound to it! Don't confuse religion with a walk with God. What you've been taught is nothing but religion. There's such beautiful freedom in a walk with God that has nothing to do with anything you're saying. God isn't going to grant, or deny, access to Heaven based on the clothes you wear. That's ridiculous. As for not causing our fellow man to stumble I'll give you one allowance to that....don't walk around naked. I mean sure you want to dress in a way that doesn't let it all hang out & doesn't leave nothing to be imagined, but that's not for the man, that's out of respect to yourself & the woman you hold yourself to be. What you're preaching is that every man who follows your religion can freely look at any woman he wants, & not feel an ounce of remorse or concern because it's not his fault. Susie Lynn over there was showing her ankle & a peek of wrist so what else was your husband supposed to do??? That is bogus. I will guarantee you that rule was first created, either by the jealous preacher's wife who wanted to keep all the pretty young women in the congregation well hidden from hubby's possible wandering eye, or by a sick man who wanted something to blame for his perverted thoughts & wanted a reason to put down the women he couldn't help but look at. Don't blame women's clothes for a man's thoughts. A man doesn't need clothes to drive his mind to sex. Heck he could look at a Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich & think about sex. So could a woman for that fact. Next time you see a strange man I want you to look at his legs closely & see if that gets the juices burning. It doesn't for me. If legs are such a sex starter then men should still be wearing skirts & dresses too. I mean they did at one time. We all did. So why should they be able to leave that style & we be chained to it? If anything pants on men should be more provocative because they actually show their sex. If what you're saying is true then everyone, men & women, need to wear floor length skirts. I'm not hating on you because I'm sure this is all you know. But I also believe that it's wrong of you to force your children to grow up like this. Your idea of life exalts the men & destroys the women. I mean baby boys can crawl but your little girls can't simply because they're girls??!!! God help those poor things!! And your Husband is disgusting for not loving you, or your daughters, enough to refuse to let you live under these rules! If he really loved you he'd hate to see you fear your body & your natural beauty as a woman, so much. He'd be proud of what God created & he'd proudly walk anywhere with you whether you had on shorts or a long dress. I'm not saying I think it's right to run around town in a bra & see-through tights, but I don't think there's anything wrong with wearing a bikini to the beach/pool. Clothes are made by the woman wearing them. If she carries herself with self respect & dignity then they'll enhance that. Don't ever be ashamed of being a woman. Just because men fear your body & the power they let it have, over their thoughts, doesn't mean you should feel that way. Being a woman Is a gift & it's a wonderful thing that should never be hidden. Showing some leg & some neck, or back, or arms, or chest is not wrong! God is a sculptor that wants the world to see the individual beauty he created in you.

  13. Burkas for all!!! Wait, please have Mary b's husband ask Jesus for his 2 cents about this issue. He wore a tunic/robe, so why are skirts for boys bad?if Jesus did it, it should be kosher. (get it, kosher, he was jewish...)

  14. You are acting terribly, do you know that? I cannot believe you would put this crap out there for people to read. Contrary to how funny you think it is, there are people who really believe it! I am a Christian and I don't get angry and become a cry baby over this and that, but this ticks me off!! Don't give us a bad name, even the more conservative Christians, just because you want a few giggles! I hope you find some real outlet in life to put your talent toward instead of this dribble! Go ahead and post this comment.... I dare you...
